I have been using these two flagship smartphones for the past few weeks and this is my comparison. Let’s start this comparison with the prices first. The Phantom X2 Pro 5G is retailing for KES 83,000 while the Samsung Galaxy S22 retail price is around KES 85,000. I have this comparison in video format on my YouTube channel as well. I’ve embedded it for you here.

Accessories
Before I start my comparison with the Camera, let’s first of all take a look at the accessories. The Samsung Galaxy S22 comes with a USB Type C charging cable only. The Phantom X2 Pro on the other hand comes with a phone case, USB Type A to Type C charging cable, USB Type C hands-free headset and a 45-Watt charger. The phone case has this metallic ring around the camera bump that is attached with screws. The innovative purpose of this ring is used as a phone stand. Keep reading for a short demonstration video.

Camera
The Phantom X2 Pro comes equipped with dual 50MP Flagship main cameras plus a 13MP wide angle camera. This phone also features the first ever retractable portrait lens. This is to give you an optical zoom instead of the traditional digital zoom. And let’s be honest, an optical zoom is much better. At the front is a 32MP selfie lens with LED Flash. The maximum video recording quality is 4K at both 30 and 60fps.
The Galaxy S22 comes with a triple lens setup at the back with the main lens being 50MP. This is followed by a 12MP Ultra-wide angle and finally a 10MP Telephoto lens. At the front is a 10MP lens without LED Flash. The rear camera also features OIS and the maximum video quality is a whooping 8K @ 24fps. The other qualities are 4K and Full HD at both 30 and 60 fps.
Design
The PHANTOM X2 Pro has a bold and showy design with its two massive 50MP lenses at the back. I used the Mars Orange version, and the back cover has a rough textured surface. This surface makes the phone easy to grip and stay on your hand since it’s indeed big. At the front, the AMOLED screen curves towards the edges giving a sleek and futuristic appearance. The front lens is a dot on the screen and it’s hard to notice but this phone has the front flash tucked in the narrow top bezel. Because of the curved display, the SIM Tray is located at the bottom of the phone.
Another innovative design on the Phantom X2 Pro is the phone case that has this ring around the camera bump. This can swivel and be used as a stand for the phone and it’s just perfect for watching YouTube while eating your lunch during break time.
The Galaxy S22 on the other hand employs a minimalistic design approach. It has the 3 lenses at back arranged in a single line. There is no lens that’s relatively bigger than the others like in the Phantom X2 Pro. The edges are made of metal and at the front it has an AMOLED screen with the front camera also being a dot in the display. The SIM Tray is also located at the bottom of the phone and finally both devices do not come with an audio jack.
Display
The Phantom X2 Pro has the bigger screen of the two phones measuring 6.8 Inches or around 173 mm. It is a Full HD+ AMOLED Display with a 1080 x 2400 screen resolution. It has an Ultra high refresh rate of 120Hz which is great for heavy and fast paced games for the ultimate visual experience.
The Galaxy S22 on the other hand has a smaller display measuring 153.9mm (6.1″). It is also a full HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 2340X1080 screen resolution. This display almost touches the edges of the phone because it has very slim bezels all around the phone.
Software and CPU
The Phantom X2 Pro comes with Android 12 out of the box with HIOS V12.0 skin on top. An upgrade to Android 13 is scheduled for mid-2023. It is powered by a Dimensity 9000 CPU with a Mali G710 MC10 GPU.
The Samsung Galaxy S22 was launched in early 2022 with Android 12 operating system but it has now been upgraded to Android 13. Its One UI skin is minimalistic and without a ton of bloatware. It is powered by a Qualcomm SM8450 Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor with an Adreno TM 730 GPU.
In a one-on-one comparison, the Dimensity 9000 CPU scores 1273 while the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 scores 1290 which is a 1% advantage. In the Multicore score still on Geekbench 5 tests, the Dimensity 9000 scored much higher.
Memory
And now the RAM. The Phantom X2 Pro comes with 12 Gigabytes of RAM and 256 Gigabytes of internal storage. With Memory Fusion the 12GB RAM can be extended up to 17GB by using a part of the ROM.
The Galaxy S22 has 8GB’s of RAM which is expandable up to 16GB by using the RAM Plus feature that also utilizes part of the 256GB internal storage.
In this storage category, I expected the Phantom X2 Pro to have at least 512GB. I was somehow disappointed with that. Another huge disadvantage on these two phones is that they do not allow Storage expansion. That’s right both the Samsung Galaxy S22 and Phantom X2 Pro do not have an SD card slot.
Battery
The S22 has a very low battery capacity of only 3700mAh and supports up to 25 Watt charging using the USB C cable. In my opinion at least 4500mAh would have been a better deal. I guess it’s because it’s the smallest of the other three Samsung S22’s because the S22+ and S22 Ultra come with 4500 and 5000 mAh Lithium Polymer batteries respectively.
The Phantom X2 Pro has a much bigger battery capacity of 5160mAh and comes with a much bigger charger of 45 Watts. This charger can get the phone up to 54% in 20 minutes and full battery capacity in an hour according to Tecno. I got somewhat of a similar result in my own charging experiment below.
- Here are my results. 1 Minute – 3% 5 Minutes – 8% 10 Minutes – 20% 15 Minutes – 29% 20 Minutes – 39% 30 Minutes – 55% 40 Minutes – 72% 52 Minutes – 88% 1 Hour – 95% 1 Hour 5 Minutes – 98% 1 Hour 8 Minutes – 99% 1 Hour 9 Minutes – 100%
Warranty
What about the warranty? The Phantom X2 Pro comes with 24 Months extended Warranty which provides free repair service during this period for failures caused by product quality. To top this up Tecno has a 90-day broken screen protection and VIP service at CarlCare which means you get faster service.

On the other hand Samsung has a 2 year warranty on the Galaxy S22. What they don’t have is the free broken screen protection. Samsung will replace the screen at a cost.
