With a thickness of only 7.79mm, the vivo V50 Lite 5G is the slimmest phone with a 6500mAh battery. That’s right a 6,500mAh battery. The phone comes in two versions, the 5G version which I have and the 4G version. The 5G version will retail for KES 47,999 while the 4G version will go for KES 37,999. That’s not bad for a smartphone with a very premium look and feel. I have the Titanium Gold version that blends the resilience of titanium metal with the softness of golden light.

Unboxing
The vivo V50 Lite comes with a flexible phone case, a 90-watt charger, USB A to Type-C cable, SIM ejector tool and some paperwork. The screen protector is already applied to the AMOLED display.
Battery & Charging
So the biggest flex on the V50 Lite is the big BlueVolt battery capacity and a 90-watt flash charger to fill it up quickly. With a completely dead battery, it only takes 3 seconds to light the screen once plugged in. That’s impressive unlike other smartphones where you really don’t know if the phone is dead or not. The V50 will automatically turn ON and fast charging will commence.
Before I started my charging experiment, I had enabled fast charging so that I can time it properly. With a dead battery, I got 11% in 5 minutes, 30% in 15 minutes, 57% in half an hour and full battery capacity in only 55 minutes. Here is the full list of the times I recorded. You can also watch my charging experiment video separately. The link is in the video description.
That is very impressive for a smartphone with a massive 6500mAh battery. In comparison, I recently reviewed a tablet with a 7000mAh battery so for vivo to fit a 6500mAh battery in a smartphone only 7.79mm thick is truly remarkable. The phone is also quite light weighing only 199 grams.
The V50 Lite also supports reverse USB charging which eliminates the need for carrying extra power banks. This feature can be very useful for charging your smartwatch, ear pods, headphones or even your friend’s smartphone when their battery runs flat.
vivo guarantees 5 year battery health meaning that you will constantly get the same performance for 5 years. The AI Sleep mode learns charging habits to slow down battery aging to make the battery last longer.
What I can conclude from the battery is that it’s large, slim and superfast.
Design
The v50 has a premium laid back look which I like. The metallic high gloss frame really blends in with the narrow bezels which are really ultra-narrow. This means the display area is larger than the previous model with a 94.2% screen to body ratio providing an exceptionally immersive viewing experience. The display size remains the same, yet it offers a larger visual area.
Camera
The dual camera setup at the back consists of a 50MP Sony IMX882 lens and an 8MP wide angle lens. This wide angle lens is swapped for a 2MP Bokeh lens on the 4G version. Both versions have a 32MP front camera and a single colour Aura Light.
The rear camera takes great and elegant pictures with super clear details full of vivid colours. The front camera also takes great selfies as usual.
The maximum recording quality is 1080p at 60fps for the rear camera and 1080p at 30fps for the front camera. The phone also has video stabilization on the rear camera.
The phone is also dust and water resistant with its IP65 rating making the device more durable and reliable in various environments.
CPU
The V50 Lite is powered by a Dimensity 6300 CPU with a Mali G52 MC2 GPU. The default RAM is 12GB which can be expanded to 24GB by using a part of the 256GB of internal storage. There is no way to expand the storage since the SIM Tray can only hold two nano SIM cards. With that microphone close to the SIM tray, the chances of poking the ejector tool here are not zero.
Just like the vivo V50, the V50 Lite comes with the new Funtouch OS 15 operating system which is based on Android 15. Combined with a 120Hz refresh rate, the V50 Lite can be used comfortably for gaming.
Other honourable mentions that I didn’t get to delve in deeper but are worth a mention are in-display fingerprint scanner, Face Unlock, Storage compression to save on space, dual speakers and Game assistance services from Game mode.
Conclusion
In conclusion vivo has again outdone themselves with the V50 Lite. This time round the battery performance really impressed me. The phone isn’t that heavy. It’s a premium looking with a nice processor and good camera performance. What do you think? Please tell me in the comments below.
