The TECNO Winpad 2 Review, Forget Your Big Laptop

The Tecno Winpad 2 is made to be the perfect office assistant. It has a display size of 10.1 Inches which is smaller than the traditional laptop screen size of 14 Inches. Its also much more lighter than a normal laptop (we all know how heavy they  can get) because it has been stripped of the DVD writer, Ethernet cable and magnetic Hard Disk.

This particular device I am reviewing has a golden finish with a black edged screen. The keyboard has chiclet style buttons with a mousepad on the bottom centre.  T conserve space, a separate numerical keypad is not present.

Its very easy to use any windows device and the winpad 2 is not any different. As a tablet it has an onscreen keyboard and on the side it has a power button and the volume rocker.

Sound and Entertainment

With Dual Stereo speakers that face the user directly in both laptop and tablet mode, the sound experience on the Tecno Winpad is great. The volume too can be loud if you want it to be. How loud? Enough for a small office party or when the lights go out in your crib.

Storage And Memory

With 2GB RAM, the Winpad 2 handles everyday tasks like data entry and sorting, web browsing, watching videos and listening to music easily. I felt like the memory should have been more but the same 2GB handles the pre installed Asphalt Airborne game flawlessly. Now if you don’ t know this game then its one heavy game and not all hardware can handle its heavy graphics.

The Storage capacity is 64GB eMMC type. Its upgrade-able using the Micro SD card slot on the unit. The other great thing I found out is that an USB Flash disk can be used even in tablet mode via the USB3.0 port.

Camera

The main 5MP camera is suitable for use while in tablet mode while the front 2MP camera can be used for Skype as well as taking selfies. Both cameras can shoot Full HD 1080P videos but the lack of flash makes the user dependent on other light sources. But one thing I did with the Winpad is record a Boardroom training session which went very well. The video was clear and the audio was clear too despite the outside traffic noises.

Battery and Charging

The Tecno Winpad 2 has a non removable 7000mAh capacity battery. That capacity is high because I could find myself using the tablet for almost a full day without charging. I could play games, read blogs, watch YouTube videos  and do some data entry jobs all while the charger remained in my bag.

Talking of charging, the available charger provides 5 Volts at 2 Amperes. Charging can be done on the tablet itself or from the keyboard side. I noticed that charging from the keyboard side took a little bit longer than on the tablet itself.

The Missing

One of the biggest advantage of the Winpad is its small size and light weight. That may double up as a disadvantage because its easy to conceal and steal. A kessington lock is not available, so users have to be alert.

Both the main and the front cameras do not have flash so using the Tecno Winpad requires relying fully on natural or artificial light for photos or videos.

There was the point that my friend highlighted and that is that you cannot use the Winpad 2 as a portable storage device. Wait a minute1 This is not a flaw because the device itself is a computer and so any data transfers can be done using one of the 3 USB ports available.

Price

The Tecno WinPad 2 is going for Kshs 32,000 for the Wi-Fi only version and Kshs 36,000 for the SIM card type (which supports 3G network).

What do you think of the Tecno Winpad 2 device? Would you recommend it to a friend? I know I would. Share your thoughts and questions below.
