The Tecno Spark 4 may look expensive but its not. I have been using the Spark 4 for a while now and this is what I can tell you. The screen is a massive 6.52 Inch screen with the camera notch at the top centre. At first glance you might think that it doesn’t have a front flash but you would be mistaken. The Spark 4 has what is known as an air gap front flash that is located between the screen and bezel.
The screen resolution is at 720X1600 and it has rounded corners instead of right angled corners. I guess rounded corners are the trend right now.
The smart panel is available on all these devices. I liked it because I could do some things like launch compose a tweet directly. These are more things that I configured the smart panel to do.
- Open front camera for a selfie
- Create contact
- Compose an email
- Send message to a specific contact
- Open chrome incognito mode
- Go to YouTube trending

The drop down menu has a screen recording feature that saves the file in MP4 format. Before recording there is a choice of either silent or voiced screen recording. That is what I used to create the video above.
Gaming And Performance
The game mode initiates immediately any game is launched. This mode frees more space as well as boosts the the game for better performance. Now the Spark 4 has a 2.0GHz quad core processor and 2GB RAM. Frankly I’m not surprised at these specifications mainly because of the price. However this microprocessor is enough for normal gaming.
The 32GB internal storage is enough to hold some games and apps. The storage can be upgraded by use of an SD card.
The SIM card and SD card tray is accessed from the left side of the smartphone by use of the provided SIM ejector tool. Whenever a SIM Ejector tool is included, the back cover cannot be removed. This in-turn means that the battery is internal.
The SIM tray can hold two nano SIM cards as well as an SD card for added storage.
Before I get into the battery let me mention that the Spark 4 is a 4G device. These specifications keep on getting better for a low price that many will consider affordable.
Battery And Charging
The time it takes to fill the 4000mAh battery to full capacity is more than 3 hours. This time would be reduced if the Spark 4 came with a 2.0A charger. Instead it comes with a 1.2A charger.
Like I mentioned before, the battery on the Spark 4 is internal and as such, it is inaccessible to the user. But there is an advantage to this because this makes the smartphone much more slimmer.
This slim dimension of only 8.2 mm is however increased by the protection.
In terms of physical protection, the Tecno Spark 4 comes with a flexible silicone phone case. This case will protect the spark 4 from drops from normal situation drops. Furthermore the case has flaps that cover the micro USB port as well as the earphone jacks from dust. For those brief moments when you drop a smartphone in water, these flaps will keep away liquids.
In conclusion the Tecno Spark 4 has all the features of a cheap and stylish smartphone. The fact that it has a big screen, takes nice photos, has a big capacity battery and fairly god storage makes it prefect as a starter smartphone.
The Tecno Spark 4 is available online and in all official TECNO shops for Ksh 11,999. This is an equivalent of 120USD.
