The Tecno Camon 18 Premier has a 60X Hyper Zoom feature as well as a stabilized gimbal camera system for smooth videos. I was particularly impressed by the super night and video quality outcome of this phone. In fact this is the phone I used to film the Tecno Camon 18 and Infinix Zero X Pro unboxing videos. The maximum video quality of this phone is 2K which is 1440p at 30 frames per second.
The camera bump at the back has 3 lenses one of them being the 64MP main lens and quad flash. The main 64MP lens is at the top followed by the wide angle/gimbal camera lens in the middle and finally the 60X Hyper zoom telephoto lens at the bottom.
Video Recording
I recorded a number of video clips and combined them in a Tecno Camon 18 Premier Video samples below. The video is in 2K but not all clips have been shot in 1440p and I have edited a video quality text to show which is which.
Stabilized Gimbal Camera
The wide angle lens is the stabilized gimbal camera on the Camon 18 Premiere. This lens actually moves around in the housing. To select this lens, one must press the 0.6X feature on the camera application. This lens can shoot wide angle photos as well as very smooth videos. Now what about video stabilization?
Video Stabilization
The Camon 18 Premiere still has the Ultra steady mode that zooms into the recorded area which compensates for the users hand movement in order to produce a smooth video.
I have embedded a two videos below to show the difference between the ultra steady being OFF and ON. The difference is like night and day although the maximum quality with Ultra Steady On is only 1080p.
The Ultra Steady feature is not available when recording in 2K. This means that the maximum quality with Ultra steady ON is 1080p.
Bokeh Mode
The Bokeh mode identifies the main subject in a video and automatically blurs the background.
Beauty Mode
Beauty mode makes the users face more beautiful by making it smooth. The Tecno Camon 18 Premiere however can only shoot beauty mode in 720p quality. Even YouTube does not recognize 720p content as HD content nowadays. You can see the beauty mode at minute 03:36 of the video embedded above.
Photo Samples
60X Zoom
What I found is that the more you zoom, the blurry the image becomes. Keeping your target in frame was also very difficult at high zoom resolution because minute hone movements are translated into very big movements of your target. However the application has this window that shows you what you are aiming at in the middle by using a grid square. This reduces the target going out of frame problem. You can see this clearly in the photo above.

Wide Angle
The wide angle lens on the Tecno Camon 18 Premiere is the star of the show because it is the gimbal camera that we’ve been seeing in the promos. When not taking stabilized videos, this lens is used to take wide angle photos. Another interesting feature of the wide angle lens is that it has 16:9 as on of the photo sizes. This is very big news to me because now I can take photos and compile them in a YouTube video without the black bars on the sides.

Unfortunately, the Tecno Camon 18 Premier does not have a macro lens. Close up photos can however be taken using the main 64MP lens.
Portrait
This is the Tecno Camon 18 shot by the Tecno Camon 18 Premiere using the portrait feature. Notice how the background is blurry while the main subject as well as my hand is fully in focus.

Super Night
One of the features that this phone excels at is taking super night photos. I will jut let the sample photos speak for themselves.
Conclusion
I prefer the gimbal camera system to the Ultra steady feature of the main lens. I didn’t upload any photos of the Super moon feature because it has been cloudy at night but when I get good photos, I will update them here.
Now when it comes to video recording, I would have wished that this phone would record 4K content as well as 1080p content at 60 frames per second. The Tecno Camon 17 Pro had had 4K as well as 1080p @60fps and I feel like the Camon 18 Premier would top that. Of course it did with the Gimbal camera and 60X zoom but I still prefer 4K recording over 2K recording for such a big brand phone.
And finally I wish this phone would have a separate macro lens. But I love it.
