The Tecno Camon 16 Premier is one of the best Camon devices that I have ever used. It is such a big upgrade from the Tecno Camon 15 because it has fast charging and dual front cameras with flash. For the gamers the Camon 16 premier comes equipped with a Helio G90T processor together with 8GB RAM and a 90Hz refresh rate screen. Those are some of the reasons that make me like the Tecno Camon 16.
Design
Glacier Silver is the colour of the smartphone that I currently have. The design takes a simplistic route with the centrally placed square camera bump at the back. As for the front we have a dual camera dot in display screen. On the right is the power button that also doubles up as the fingerprint scanner.
The Camon 16 Premier came out almost the exact time as did the Infinix Zero 8. These two devices are very similar to one another when it comes to the specifications. As for the design however, the Infinix Zero 8 looks great with its diamond shaped camera bump.
Specifications
Here are the Tecno Camon 16 specification’s Incase you aren’t familiar with the device.
- Helio G90T processor (2.0GHz Octa-core)
- 8GB RAM
- 128GB Storage
- 4500mAh
- 64MP Quad rear camera with quad flash
- 48MP dual front camera with flash
- 6.9 Inch Full HD display
- 2460 X 1080 Resolution with
- 90Hz refresh rate
Display
Like you’ve seen in the specifications list above, the Camon 16 Premier has a big screen at 6.9 Inches diagonally. This screen is also a full HD screen with a 2460 by 1080 resolution.
The 90Hz refresh rate makes gaming on this device smooth and fun. The following video is a gaming test that I did. I only used the most asked for game which is PUBG.
The result was no lagging at all while playing the game using HD graphic and high refresh rate. I might not be good at playin this game but the Camon 16 premier experience is good.
The Dark Theme is also very well implemented throughout the device. All system apps like the phone and messaging apps also change to a dark theme too. Some installed apps like Shazam also follow suit.
Camera
The 48MP front camera is the main camera with the second one being 8MP. The secondary camera is used for taking wide angle selfie portraits and videos as well. Hidden on the left of the ear piece is the front flash which is also dimmable.
As for the rear camera the main lens is 64MP. The 8MP lens is used for both wide angle and macro photography. The rest 2MP lens are for depth.
The main rear and front cameras can record videos in 4K as well as 1080p at 60 frames per second. I have a lot to talk about the Camera and that is why I will do it in a separate Tecno Camon 16 Premier Camera review.
Screen Recording
I always get questions about the screen recordings on my smartphone videos. The usual questions usually revolve around the quality of the video and the internal audio recording.
The Camon 16 Premier can screen record 1080p videos. As for the audio, it will be captured by the microphone for voiced screen recordings.
I used AZ screen recorder app for this footage. This app can record internal audio. I still had the earphones plugged in pic.twitter.com/lJxtMv4bWv

Storage
A simple 30 second 4K video recorded on the Camon 16 Premier can occupy as much as 200MB. A 4 minute video will occupy an approximate 1 GB of space. Therefore its a good thing that the Camon 16 Premier has 128GB internal storage to hold all that footage as well as your other documents.
The storage space is expandable to 256GB using micro SD card. That is if you fill up the available 128GB internal storage.
Fast Charging
While unboxing the Camon 16 premier I did notice the big charger that was in the packaging. This big charger also happens to work together with the phone to deliver fast charging time. This dual voltage charger can provide 10 Volts at 3.3 Amperes or 5 Volts at 3 Amperes.
From a low battery, the Camon 16 Premier could be charged to full capacity in approximately one hour. This is accomplished by the phone automatically choosing the higher voltage. To fill it up all the way, the phone will automatically switch to the normal 5 Volts.
To make this possible is the charging port as well. This is because its a USB type C port.
USB Type C
There are alot of advantages of having this type of port on the Camon 16 Premier. The first reason is faster charging times. This is because USB type C port can transfer a lot of power than a traditional micro USB port. This is one of the reasons why the Camon 16 Premier was is big upgrade from the Tecno Camon 15.
There is no risk of over charging the Camon 16 because it has a safe charging feature. This will automatically disconnect when the battery is fully charged.
Th USB type C port can also be used to connect OTG devices as well as be used for tethering. USB tethering shares the phones internet connection via USB.
