The Phantom X2 Pro 5G launched in January this year is a beast of a phone with very high specs and innovative features too. This is the first ever smartphone to have a retractable portrait lens and, in this article, I will highlight all the biggest features & specs of this phone. But first the price.
Price in Kenya
The Recommended Retail Price for the PHANTOM X2 Pro is KES 82,999. The other Phantom device launched was the PHANTOM X2 is retailing for KES 67,999. The Phantom X2 Pro came in a very stylish box and unboxing it was a very pleasant experience.

Accessories
The Phantom X2 Pro comes with a phone case, USB Type A to Type C charging cable, USB Type C hands-free headset and a 45-Watt charger. The phone case has this metallic ring around the camera bump. This can swivel and be used as a stand for the phone.
Camera
The Phantom X2 Pro comes equipped with dual 50MP Flagship main cameras plus a 13MP wide angle camera. This phone also features the first ever retractable portrait lens. Look at that thing move. This is to give you an optical zoom instead of the traditional digital zoom. And let’s be honest, an optical zoom is much better.
At the front is a 32MP selfie lens with LED Flash. The maximum video recording quality is 4K at both 30 and 60fps.
Design
The PHANTOM X2 Pro has a bold and showy design with its two massive 50MP lenses at the back. This is the Mars Orange version, and the back cover has this rough textured surface. This surface makes the phone easy to grip and stay on your hand since it’s indeed big. At the front, the AMOLED screen curves towards the edges giving a sleek and futuristic appearance. The front lens is a dot on the screen and it’s hard to notice but this phone has the front flash tucked in the narrow top bezel.
Because of the curved display, the SIM Tray is located at the bottom of the phone. Another innovative design on the Phantom X2 Pro is the phone case that has this ring around the camera bump. This can swivel and be used as a stand for the phone and it’s just perfect for watching YouTube while eating your lunch during break time.
Display
The Phantom X2 Pro has a very big display measuring 6.8 Inches or around 173 mm. It is a Full HD+ AMOLED Display with a 1080 x 2400 screen resolution. It has an Ultra high refresh rate of 120Hz which is great for heavy and fast paced games for the ultimate visual experience. The refresh rate can either be set to 120Hz, 60Hz for long battery life or to Auto refresh rate to get a bit of both visual experience and battery life.
Software and CPU
The Phantom X2 Pro comes with Android 12 out of the box with HIOS V12.0 skin on top. An upgrade to Android 13 is scheduled for mid-2023. It is powered by a Dimensity 9000 CPU with a Mali G710 MC10 GPU.
The Dimensity 9000 CPU scores 100% in both Single Core and Multicore on Geekbench 5 tests. And that is very impressive. Compare this to The Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 4G processor on the Samsung Galaxy S22 which scores only 31% and 36% in the single and multi-core tests respectively.
Memory & Storage
The Phantom X2 Pro comes with 12 Gigabytes of RAM and 256 Gigabytes of internal storage. With Memory Fusion the 12GB RAM can be extended up to 17GB by using a part of the ROM.
In this storage category, I expected the Phantom X2 Pro to have at least 512GB. This is because the other features are so big, so I expected the storge to be as well.
Another disappointment comes in the form of expandable storage. The Phantom X2 Pro does not have an SD card slot. The SIM tray only accommodates two nano SIM cards.
Battery
The Phantom X2 Pro has a big battery capacity of 5160mAh and comes with a much bigger charger of 45 Watts like we saw at the beginning of the article. This charger can get the phone up to 54% in 20 minutes and full battery capacity in an hour.
Warranty
The Phantom X2 Pro comes with 24 Months + 1-month Extended Warranty which provides free repair service during this period for failures caused by product quality. To top this up Tecno has a 90-day broken screen protection and VIP service at CarlCare which means you get faster service.
