Microsoft Mobile Devices launched three more smartphones with the name Lumia affixed to each. The new range of smartphones are the Lumia 430, Lumia 640 and Lumia 640XL. The new Lumia devices were launched at the National Museums of Kenya in Nairobi under the banner of a new consumer campaign dubbed #AchieveMore, which seeks to inspire users to increase their productivity by doing more with their Lumia phones, whether at work or at home.
The Lumia 640 and 640XL become the latest LTE / 4G smart devices to join the Lumia portfolio in Kenya and will retail at Kshs 19,999 and Kshs 25,750 respectively. The Lumia 430 which is a Dual SIM phone is the cheapest of the three and will be sold for only Ksh8,850
In a community where a majority of people think that expensive things are of the highest quality, Mariam Abdullahi, Microsoft General Manager for East Africa assured the gathering that, “People around the world have responded enthusiastically to our affordable Lumia range. We continue to invest in this segment to ensure that as many consumers as possible can enjoy signature Microsoft experiences, regardless of budget.”
At the launch which had purple as the theme colour banners with the tag line Inspiration doesn’t only work 9 to 5! were on display. Because of that tagline, two applications One Drive and One note were featured at the launch. One note is an app that makes sure you can make notes very fast. It also allows users to pin different types of content apart from text to the app. You can pin pictures too and whats more interesting is that if you exit the window without saving, the changes are saved automatically.
On the other hand One Drive is a cloud based service that will make sure you store your data in a cloud. Consumers of the Lumia devices will get 30GB free storage and a one year free subscription. All the Lumia devices have access to over 300,000 applications from the Windows Phone store.
Lumia 640 and 640XL offers more personal computing and increased productivity through seamlessly integrated Microsoft Office experiences which comes with one year free subscription, OneDrive storage and fast 4G connectivity. Both devices will upgrade to and benefit from Windows 10 as it becomes available later this year.
With the Lumia 640 and 640XL, you can smoothly and quickly access important documents or run all of your favourite websites, apps and games, thanks to the on-board 1GB of memory and powerful quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. You can also view photos and watch videos on a crisp 5.7” HD display on both devices as you capture detail rich photos even in low light, thanks to the 13 MP camera on the Lumia 640 XL with LED flash and an 8 MP camera on the Lumia 640, also with an LED flash.
What’s more, you can stay updated on the most important information with Glance Screen, available on the Lumia 640 XL and enjoy Windows Phone 8.1 and the Lumia Denim update, complete with one-swipe Action Center, Word Flow and Live Folders on both devices.
And as Microsoft unveiled this new range of devices, the #AchieveMore campaign, a national consumer promotion was also launched to reward customers with five Chevrolet Cruze cars and 40 Lumia 640 XL devices to be won over the promotion period.
The video below shows one of the vehicles to be won being showcased.
To participate in the consumer campaign like Mariam said in the video, all you need to do is purchase any Lumia phone with a valid 12 months warranty in Kenya activate it and send a text message containing IMEI number to 22860 during the program period. Note that the warranty is for Kenya only so phones from abroad will not be eligible. Winners will be contacted via +254 2301641 and announced on the Lumia East Africa Facebook and Twitter pages.
