OLX Revamps Its Mobile App For A Better User Experience

OLX, the leading online classifieds company has launched a NEW mobile application which is more secure, user friendly and able to load faster while consuming less data. Since this is not an upgrade, all OLX Users will have to delete the previous OLX application and install the new one. You can download the new OLX Application here: http://www.olx.co.ke/ Among the new features users will enjoy are safety, In app chat and email verification. In this project dubbed Project Serengeti, the new platform focuses on mobile only as OLX taps into the reality of the African market , a mobile internet continent.

OLX In-app Chat

This new feature allows buyers and sellers to interact within the web and App via instant chat messaging and direct chat with other users who are logged in online. “This allows a buyer to chat with the seller in real time if he/she is also online. If the seller is offline there is an SMS option whereby the app itself will take you to your messaging app to compose a new message, and the good news is that the number is already inserted, so no need to write it down”, said, said OLX Country Manager, Peter Ndiang’ui.

The New OLX App makes the platform safer for users in numerous ways by ensuring all photos are watermarked and an already existing photo cannot be re-used by anyone else claiming to sell a similar product. The Report button is also visible when contacting a seller to enable buyers report any suspicious trends portrayed by a seller. “Fore instance if a buyer requests for money before viewing an item then the buyer can use the Report button to report a suspicious seller”, said OLX Country Manager, Peter Ndiang’ui and further added that, “The safety tips in the site will always remind users to transact safely. This, we believe will go a long way in ensuring OLX users are safe and informed on our platform”.

Email verification

For those who wish to use the new OLX Application for selling items, Email verification will be required when posting items to help in authenticating actual owners of adverts. As a Seller you will have to create an account and confirm it via a link sent to your inbox.

With a user’s permission, OLX Support team can edit an advert on user’s behalf to correct spelling errors or rearrange images on an advert to have the best image set as the main image. The posting page prompts user to post a higher quality advert with more characters in title and description thus increasing their chances of selling.

User friendly

I have tried the new OLX app and can confirm that indeed it’s very user friendly. From choosing my location to searching for products and chatting with sellers, everything has been made much simpler.

It also makes it easy for users to manage their accounts by editing, deleting and updating all their items on the go through My Account feature” said Ndiang’ui. ”This is unlike before where users had less control of their accounts but now the user can for example block a stubborn buyer from sending them emails”, he added.

In Africa only Tanzania, Uganda and Ghana which have reported success during the transition to the new app.
